The Takeaways:
There are 3 primary “organs” or “aspects” of the Mind from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This include the self-aware/conscious brain (Shen), the thinking/emotional brain (Hun), and the body brain (Po.) In order to have a healthy and THRIVING mental/emotional and physical life it is important that these 3 parts of the Mind are well balanced, coordinated, and in harmony with each other.
The thinking/emotional brain (Hun) was the topic of todays’ page. It is primarily responsible for the feelings of being “up” and extroverted or “down” and introverted. It is a normal part of life to “swing” back and forth between the 2 phases and you can encourage this behavior by allowing yourself to be passive and introspective when you feel the urge or active and social when you feel the urge.
In order to prevent the “swings” from becoming excessive which creates states of mania and hyperactivity or depression and social avoidance the thinking/emotional brain must be balanced by the self-aware/conscious brain. This part of the brain (self-aware) can be developed in many ways however 1 of the primary ways is through conscious meditation. More information on these practices can be found on the self-aware/conscious brain page as well as throughout the blog primarily under the “pick your struggle” section.
Finally, in TCM each major organ provides support for a particular mental/emotional function. The liver organ is responsible for providing support for the thinking/emotional brain. Making sure to get adequate vegetables, especially raw vegetables such as fresh pressed juices or salads can provide a solid foundation for a healthy and THRIVING thinking/emotional brain.
