The Takeaways:

There are 3 primary “organs” or “aspects” of the Mind from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This include the self-aware/conscious brain (Shen), the thinking/emotional brain (Hun), and the body brain (Po.) In order to have a healthy and THRIVING mental/emotional and physical life it is important that these 3 parts of the Mind are well balanced, coordinated, and in harmony with each other.

The body brain (Po) was the topic of todays’ page. It is primarily responsible for monitoring and signaling the body to respond to the “internal” environment (thinking/emotional brain) and the “external” environment (5 senses). The body brain is the “connector” between the Body (Qi & Essence) and the Mind and plays a vital role in health and wellness.

It is the primary place in the body that stores “undigested experiences” and as such is very strongly affected by them. An undigested experience causes the body brain to “contract” or respond in a harmful or unbalanced way to a stimulus. Examples of this might include sending blood and energy to the muscles in preparation for flight instead of to the stomach for digestion of food when eating is perceived (or seen) by the body brain as a threat or danger.

This reaction to undigested experiences is a very common contributor to a wide variety of health symptoms such as IBS, nausea, breathing difficulties, anxiety, apathy, and is almost always found in cases of hypersensitivity or “over reaction” of the body-mind.

Practicing “emotional digestion” often has a tremendous impact on the health of the body brain and reduces or eliminates many health complaints by healing the Mind and allowing the Body-Mind connection to grow strong. Specific “emotional digestion” practices can be found in the relevant “pick your struggle” and is the focus of the 1 on 1 therapy offered in person or remotely via zoom.
