“Where you stumble and fall, there you will find gold.”

Joseph Campbell

Precision Manual Therapy:
  • I was un-believably lucky at the very beginning of my career to meet one of my great teachers; Doug Nelson. One of his first lessons was also the one that stuck with me more than anything else…
    • “One symptom, one cause. Most of western medicine is predicated on the idea that if you boil it all down there is 1 culprit who is the source of the problem. Eliminate that source and the problem disappears. (This is called Reductionism) Then, of course, there is real life. Seldom is there 1 cause for anything’ (Will, Nelson 2005)
    • If there is anything I have learned from a lifetime of personal health struggles and over a decade of clinical experience it is just how true that statement is.
  • Everyone has a solution
    • If you haven’t already discovered this then you are either incredibly lucky or you haven’t “shopped” your options yet.
    • Pain is incredibly complex and also 1 of the great medical mysteries of our time.
      • MRI’s, XRAY’s, and all manner of “objective” testing constantly find “problems” in perfectly pain free individuals. (bulging or herniated discs, misaligned vertebrae, fractures, etc.)
      • There are countless studies that show that is impossible to accurately diagnose how much pain someone is in through images studies (such as those listed above)
      • The most accurate way to measure pain, even with all our fancy technology, is still to simply ask the person who is suffering.
      • How much pain you remember having yesterday or last week is STRONGLY affected by how much pain you are in right now. Our minds actually re-write our memories based on our current moment experience. (They often now refer to memory as “re-creating,” or “re-weaving” because study after study demonstrates that memory is not something that is recalled but rather remanufactured.)
  • A new approach
    • This entire blog is based on a simple premise; rather than trying to find your magic bullet (focusing on the dis-ease), we focus on rebuilding health from the ground up which allows your body to fix itself along the way.
    • There will always be “new” dis-eases and “new” solutions and each one changes our understanding of what came before. On the other hand there are cornerstones for health that have been widely accepted and used successfully for thousands of years.
    • Give your body what it needs, listen to what it’s telling you, and it will fix what it can as quickly as possible.

What you get:

  • 75 Minute Face to Face Session 1 on 1
  • Each session is custom tailored to the individual as well as to the specific struggles you are facing at the time.
  • The vast majority of the manual therapy work revolves around “faulty movement patterns”, for this reason I will perform a detailed physical evaluation of HOW you move rather than CAN you move so that we can figure out together exactly which movements are causing you harm in your daily activities and correct them.
  • Sessions consist of teaching you specific movements/exercises that re-train your body to move without causing harm and then detailed hands on manual/massage therapy focusing not on the symptom but on the cause of the problem.
  • Most appointments after the initial consultation are about 5-10 minutes of teaching/reviewing movements and 60-70 minutes of hands on table time.
  • If topical products (Chinese herbal mixtures) would be beneficial to you they are included at no additional cost.
  • Finally (almost) all of the exercises/movements we practice in the office are available as a video recording going over not just the movement(s) themselves but also WHY we practice certain ones and suggestions as to other ways to use that knowledge to speed up your progress or more effectively manage your symptoms until they are resolved.

Cost: $150.00

(Note if you are suffering from Jaw pain): Appointments are ALSO available in abbreviated 30 minute sessions at a cost of $75. This is specifically available for TMJ sessions only.
