Becoming Free:
The longer I have been teaching and practicing these amazing therapies the more benefits I notice.
While my own physical health and energy level has improved greatly (coming from someone who was bed-ridden for over a year that is no small thing) by far the greatest benefit I notice is an incredible ability to TRUST life.
I used to be chronically plagued by doubt, concern, worry, and fear about…well pretty much everything. I lived my life according to a list of “should(s)” and “shouldn’t(s)” while constantly trying to figure out who was “right” and what the “right” thing to do was.
The joy of being able to act in the most natural way without fear, doubt, or concern has been the greatest gift in life.
What do I mean by “act in the most natural way?”
I have always been a fan of epic novels of heroic quests. Perhaps the thing I always appreciated the most was that when the hero found their “course” and stopped resisting it there was this sense of ease and flow. It’s not that everything all of a sudden became easy and there were no more challenges but rather the hero was at peace in their actions and behaviors and they became free of doubt.
Can you imagine what it would be like to be free of doubt? I’m not talking about the “free of doubt” that marks the extreme behavior we see in human history, but rather absolutely trusting that you are expressing your hearts deepest longing in the best way you can?* (see below)
What About The Actual Health Benefits?
While I find the greatest benefit of these therapies to be the ability to trust life you may be more interested in the health benefits and they are many!
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is very clear that the Mind is incredibly important in health and vitality. I have found that in almost every chronic health issue there is a degree of stress that is actually feeding the dis-ease.
The best example I can give of this is picking at some part of your body that is healing. Maybe it’s a scab, or maybe it’s that little piece of skin that’s still hanging on after skinning your elbow, or maybe it’s a bruise, or a hang-nail. The point here is that it’s something you just can’t help but poke at.
9X out of 10 what happens? You make it worse.
I can’t count the number of times some minor wound would be 80% healed and I just HAD to poke at it and all of a sudden the wound was “fresh” again.
Chronic illness is often very similar. You don’t enjoy the experience of X dis-ease and spend all this time, effort, and money trying to fix it. The more you work at it the more emotionally invested you become until if it’s chronic enough it feels like it has taken over your life.
In TCM we have this super simple way of looking at dis-ease. If energy stops flowing you have dis-ease. That’s it, super simple. The more mentally and emotionally invested you become in your issue the more energy gets stuck right where you don’t want it! (you can find this topic discussed in greater detail here)
I literally cannot count the number of times a client has “digested” enough of their resistance to their dis-ease that they no longer feel invested in getting better to find to their amazement that so long as they don’t mind if their symptom comes back it doesn’t!
The main point of this page was simply to elaborate a bit on the “big picture” benefits of the mental/emotional work we offer. If you are looking for more specific “will this help me” then look here.
*It is important here to differentiate between “naturalness” and believing your doing “right”. History is full of people who caused great harm by doing what they believed was right at the time. This is different from what we are calling “naturalness” which might be better defined as being “undivided”.
Naturalness always arises spontaneously out of love and a desire to be of benefit and never imposes it’s will on others. “What is the most organic way I can behave in this moment that is without agenda and most accurately expresses my love of the totality of human experience.”
Whereas believing your doing “right” is often planned or thought through, has an agenda, and (in the worst case scenarios) imposes it’s “rightness” on others.
